Now, I'm parent, and one of my first thoughts when I was watching this was, of course; "this is funny stuff"; but also "all that money for that protective gear?!"

Coversational Apologetics:Jesus Talks with Buddha

Image
When once asked "who would be your dream interview?" Larry King without hesitating said "Jesus Christ of Nazareth!" Well, Larry will have his day in the sun, or should I say his day before the Son, as we all will, when Jesus returns and judges the deeds of men. Needless to say the world would have tuned in for that conversation, ratings would have hit the proverbial ceiling and beyond. While I’m on this course of thought, what other conversations would make your millennium, if you had the chance to witness them? Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X; Martin Luther and Brian McLaren; Lemuel Haynes and T.D. Jakes; what about John Calvin and Jacobus Arminius? In the book 'The Lotus and the Cross: Jesus talks with Buddha', author and apologist Ravi Zacharias gives us a respectable, and God honoring glimpse into the what if. In a conversational apologetic style, Ravi brings us court side into what the conversation might of been like, if Jesus Christ spoke w

Sanctification in Golf?!!

I started playing golf in 2010, and I love it! It’s a new challenge for me. See I've played basketball for most of my life and while I still love the game for the sheer beauty that it possesses when played correctly; when five men unite, not only, for a common goal but accomplishing that goal as a unit, it is a sight to behold. Of course it’s great to see the superstar put his team on his back and drop 81 points too! Individually, it’s nothing like being on a court alone; perfecting the craft of hoops; shooting till your arm goes limp; hitting imaginary buzzer –beaters. But for all that basketball gives, it can sure be taxing on the body, and even this 26 year old has been through a few audits. So golf has been a welcome addition to my life. For what it lacks in physicality, it makes up in the challenges it presents. My Golf Instructor once exclaimed that it is “the most challenging game out there” I agree. I have also learnt, rather quickly, the spiritual benefits of golf, for eve

The Attributes of God: What Is Sin?

Image
I'm loving Shai Linne's new album 'The Attributes of God!' I think I can say without error that no one to date in the Christian Hip-Hop community has dedicated an entire album to the subject matter. And if it was anyone that was certainly equipped to attempt a feat of such theological loftiness, to a rap beat, it would be Shai Linne. If you are a lover of God; a lover of Christian Hip-Hop; young or old; you will enjoy the God glorifying lyrics and banging beats to brother Shai's latest project 'The Attributes of God.' I was particularly blessed by Track 8 "All Consuming Fire" which highlights a rather unpopular attribute of God, his wrath. This attribute of God is consistent with his holiness; absolutely pure and set apart. No other attribute of God reverberates throughout the scriptures regarding his nature quite like Holy, Holy, Holy (Isaiah 6:1-7). For it is the attribute of holiness which encompasses his nature and through which the other r

The Church, the Gospel and Social Reform

There was a string of shooting deaths on Grand Cayman , all of which are thought to be linked to gang activity. In all, the lives of 5 young men were snuffed out in a matter of eight days. We mourn with those who are mourning the deaths of these young men and we pray that the “Father of mercies and the God of all comfort” would comfort those in need with the hope of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As we look to God, I do feel the necessity to thank him for his grace to us in these Islands . For while we can agree that these acts and others like them, which are part of a growing frequency of violence, are heinous, we cannot ignore the reaction of outrage by the citizens, expatriate and local alike. God has smiled upon us in such a way that acts such as these are rarities not norms. As a result of God’s grace we have not been desensitized to the value of a human life and that’s something that (a) we continuously thank God for and (b) we ask God to help us guard and seek never lose. Why Are You Blogging?

Image
Everyone is blogging, everyone! Ok not everyone is blogging but a lot of people are! "So why are you blogging?" A church sister asks, as we were talking in the supermarket, (pregnant pause) "to glorify God of course!" I answered as if the reason should have been apparent, but was it? I thank God for that sister; I thank God for that pause, though lasting only seconds, it was enough to have me ushered into the presence of the Lord with that question, like a huge elephant in the throne room and with God with expression of "well, why are you?" That question needed to be asked; my heart needed to be realigned; my pride placed in check. God used a trip to supermarket to rid my heart of any hypocrisy, any expectation or desire for grandeur, for the time being at least; I'm sure I'll be in need of a follow meeting form time to time. Yes! I am blogging to glorify God and praying that by the enabling of the Spirit I would be found faithful to the task.

Already But Not Yet!

Image
I can remember the first time I was introduced to this phrase; its obvious oxymoronic pronouncement was just one more worldview shattering truth which was redefining Christianity as I once knew it. Having been given new ears for the Gospel - the life, death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the centrality of that message through which God the Spirit not only gives new life but also sustains new life (1 Cor. 15:1-2) - “Already But Not Yet” was quickly, if not instantly, ushered from oddity to beautiful Gospel paradoxical truth in my mind and spirit. “Already But Not Yet” is used to describe a tension within scripture, where both present and future realities converge; it refers to the time between the first and second comings of Jesus Christ or “the last days” where this age and the age to come overlap. It is in this period that the New Testament was penned and in which we still live today. It is in this intersection where Christians (those who have repented and be
