Words Always Necessary!

Image
I Didn't Say That! "Preach the Gospel always and if necessary use words." If you are a Christian, you might of have heard or read this quote once are twice and if you haven't before, well, you have now. And perhaps your first reaction is "cool quote", it was certainly my reaction. This quote has been attributed to the late St. Francis of Assisi (1181 or 1182 - 1226) though there is no church history to support the claim that he even uttered it. Though it sounds like something he would of said. But "why is he calling upon Church History to weigh in on a "cool" quote, you ask? Well, what if I told you that it wasn't such a "cool quote", perhaps you would consider the possibility for a moment, then retreat to the opine, that thats my opine. But what then, if I said that the quote was not biblical, that rather than affirming a biblical truth it served to undermine a truth at worse; obscuring at best, the union between a life whic...

Every basketball fan, Clipper fan or not remembers Blake Griffin's (Must See BG) towering dunk over New Knicks Timofey Mozgov last year. Well, Must See BG has out done himself again! I'm real impressed with the Oklahoma's bench no one moved a muscle, wow! :-)

Shaq on TNT: The Cafeteria - The Edit Room - Like You Never Left

Image
Inside the NBA is one of my favorite shows. The combination of Chuck, Kenny, and the always sober E.J. made for good late night viewing. Kudos to the folks over at Turner sports for the move to bring in Shaq, fresh off of retirement. With his child-like exuberance, it can olny make an already great show better. Case in point:

Sanctified by the Word of Truth: Scripture Memorization

Image
Allow me to project some of my imperfections upon you. If you, like me, struggle with the regret of not having more of the Word of God committed to memory and find yourself from time to time or all the time for that matter, unable to remember where a certain verse in scripture is or like those show-offs able to recall book, chapter, verse and page number. I sympathize with you; but perhaps that regret should be ours to shoulder, as we may not have been (I know I haven't) good stewards of our time. Of course we thank God for those brothers/sisters that have been diligent in the reading and memorization of the Bible for their example. And we pray that the much fruit be the result of that diligence both in their lives and in the edification of their local church. Value of Scripture Memorization The spiritual benefits of Scripture Memorization are numerous. To adequately appreciate the importance and the benefits of memorizing scripture, one must first understand the role of the wr...

Coversational Apologetics:Jesus Talks with Buddha

Image
When once asked "who would be your dream interview?" Larry King without hesitating said "Jesus Christ of Nazareth!" Well, Larry will have his day in the sun, or should I say his day before the Son, as we all will, when Jesus returns and judges the deeds of men. Needless to say the world would have tuned in for that conversation, ratings would have hit the proverbial ceiling and beyond. While I’m on this course of thought, what other conversations would make your millennium, if you had the chance to witness them? Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X; Martin Luther and Brian McLaren; Lemuel Haynes and T.D. Jakes; what about John Calvin and Jacobus Arminius? In the book 'The Lotus and the Cross: Jesus talks with Buddha', author and apologist Ravi Zacharias gives us a respectable, and God honoring glimpse into the what if. In a conversational apologetic style, Ravi brings us court side into what the conversation might of been like, if Jesus Christ spoke w...

Sanctification in Golf?!!

Image
I started playing golf in 2010, and I love it! It’s a new challenge for me. See I've played basketball for most of my life and while I still love the game for the sheer beauty that it possesses when played correctly; when five men unite, not only, for a common goal but accomplishing that goal as a unit, it is a sight to behold. Of course it’s great to see the superstar put his team on his back and drop 81 points too! Individually, it’s nothing like being on a court alone; perfecting the craft of hoops; shooting till your arm goes limp; hitting imaginary buzzer –beaters. But for all that basketball gives, it can sure be taxing on the body, and even this 26 year old has been through a few audits. So golf has been a welcome addition to my life. For what it lacks in physicality, it makes up in the challenges it presents. My Golf Instructor once exclaimed that it is “the most challenging game out there” I agree. I have also learnt, rather quickly, the spiritual benefits of golf, for eve...
