The Ever-Quotable Prince of Preachers on Approaching Christ in Our Sin

For the Christian, it is a constant temptation, once sin is committed, to immerse ourselves in some routine of righteousness, in an attempt to rid ourselves of the stench of sin, before we enter into the Throne Room of Grace. We say "let me get a couple of days of quiet bible study or accumulate a few days of good deeds before I confess that/those sins." When, in majority of cases, imperceptibly, we have only succeeded to replace or compound rather, whatever sin committed, with self-righteousness and pride. For the Christ and His Cross will become objects upon which we solely offer eternal praise and affection, only on the other side of Glorification. Until that final chain of redemption (Rom.8:29-30) is realized, we visit and revisit the the foot of the Cross to remember our sins (past, present and future) last resting place. We enter into the Throne Room of Grace in our filth and lowliness knowing that the blood of Christ has assured us an audience (Heb.4:12-16); the forgiveness of our sins; the answer to our supplications.

Charles H. Spurgeon says it like this.....

“If you are to go to Christ, do not put on your good doings and feelings, or you will get nothing; go in your sins, they are your livery. Your ruin is your argument for mercy; your poverty is your plea for heavenly alms; and your need is the motive for heavenly goodness. Go as you are, and let your miseries plead for you.”
